ALEXANDRIA, VA. (February 3, 2010) – Northern Virginia Community College’s ice hockey team in partnership with the National Capital Military team will host the inaugural “Books for Troops” charity hockey game on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the Prince William Ice Center.

All proceeds from the event will support the Northern Virginia Community College Educational Foundation Purple Heart Scholarship Program. The scholarship is open to Purple Heart Award recipients and spouses providing tuition and book support at NOVA. In addition, honorably discharged veterans and spouses may also be considered.

The National Capital Region Joint Military Hockey Team was founded in the fall of 2008. The purpose of the team is to give active duty, reserve, and retired military members of all skill levels a chance to play competitive hockey while helping to raise funds and resources for various charities. Past charitable games have included Toys for Tots and the Wounded Warrior Regiment.

The recommended ticket donation is $10 for adults and $5 for students, military, and youth under 18. The Prince William Ice Center is located at 5180 Dale Boulevard in Woodbridge.

NOVA’s ice hockey program is a member of the Blue Ridge Conference of the American Collegiate Hockey Association.
